Governor Duncan Taylor and his wife
Marie-Beatrice Taylor were inducted as Chief Scout of the Cayman Islands Scout
Association and President of the Girl Guides at the Governor’s residence last Friday.
Mr. Taylor repeated the Scout
pledge and received a pin by Scout Chief Commissioner Orrett Connor.
Mrs. Taylor, consenting to be
patron of the Girl Guides, was pinned by Joy Rose Frater, that group’s Island
Commissioner.
Mr. Taylor, who was a Scout many
years ago, said he was honoured to become Chief Scout and delighted to be given
the chance to be a part of the group and he looked forward to doing as much as
he could to support the organisations.
“It is amazing how much you can
achieve when we put the effort into it,” he said.
Mrs. Taylor was just as delighted
to be a part of the Girl Guides and expressed her pleasure at being a part of
the group.
Winston Hayle, executive
commissioner of the Scout Association, noted that the event was particularly
significant since it is the groups’ 100th anniversary worldwide.
A moment of silence was observed
during a candle-lighting ceremony for past Scouts and Girl Guides who had been
involved with the association.
