Cayman flags are flying high

International flag football was
staged over the weekend at the Ed Bush stadium from Friday culminating in
finals on Sunday and Cayman were triumphant in both the men’s and women’s
tournaments. They were playing for the Caribbean Cup amongst themselves with
local players forming various territories. Besides Cayman there were teams
representing Jamaica, Canada, USA and the World.

Baron Solomon was the hero for
Cayman in the men’s final for the Regional Cup against Bahamas, getting the
touchdown with 35 seconds left for a 6-0 triumph. Cayman women beat World 18-14
with Courtisha Ebanks, Cassandra Bodden and Keisha Solomon getting the touchdowns
for Cayman and Bobeth O’Garro and Scimone Campbell scoring for World.

Bahamas brought over a fledgling
women’s side to interact and learn from the well established Cayman women’s
players. This tournament was created by Rex Whittaker and Brendon Malice who
are hugely involved in flag here and whose wives – Dionne and Lisa – are also
quarterbacks.
