This year’s What Women Want Expo, organised by Z99 and Rooster 101, was the place to be for shoppers wanting a one-stop venue for the island’s hottest products and lifestyle services, including women’s apparel and jewellery, spa services and home ware.
The show was also a good venue for local businesses wanting to promote their offerings on the run up to the festive season.
The droves who attended were able to get their eyebrows threaded for $5, enjoy free glasses of quality wine and get a jump on Christmas gift sourcing, all conveniently located under one roof at the Governors Ballroom at the Westin.
More than 20 local companies registered and displayed an impressive array of merchandise, and the place was packed with women and men browsing the single and double kiosks laden with all manner of enticing offerings. Several of the vendors also had giveaways, including free bags, pens, stress balls, and in the case of Tattersall Imports, complimentary glasses of wine.
The expo’s festive mood was no doubt helped by the many door prizes offered by the vendors.
“What Women Want continues to grow every year, and this year was no exception A thousand women got a taste and look at gift ideas and service,” said Hurley’s Entertainment Marketing and Sales Supervisor Cheryl Birch.
For those who wanted to be pampered, there were several spa and beauty booths offering a dizzying selection of heavily discounted treatments, products and advice. Manicures, pedis, back massages and soothing neck and shoulder treatments were eagerly taken up for those who wanted to bliss out before shopping till they dropped. The Da Vinci Centre even laid on a free stretch limousine ride to its premises with the offer of 20 per cent discount on some of their treatments, hors d’ouvres and champagne, during the five-hour event. Polished, Avon Advantage, Posh Spa Lounge, the Westin’s Hibiscus Spa, and Beyond Basics Medical Day Spa were among the salons and centres offering their beauty and rejuvenation services.
Those looking for the latest in furnishings and accessories to spruce up their homes during the holiday season certainly had plenty to feast their eyes on, with stunning displays by Just Add Water and Beyond the Horizon. Both companies really went all out to impress visitors with a range of tempting furnishings, including decorative lamps, embroidered cushions and exquisite holiday wreaths and candles. A good selection of technology by way of the latest in-home entertainment systems and computer merchandise were shown off by Hi-Tech and Cyber Joes, any of which would have made great Christmas presents for the home or that special someone.
As Christmas is a traditional time for gifts of jewellery and all that glitters, Grand Jewelers and Polished did brisk trade highlighting their jewellery and high-fashion accessories.
Tapping into the fact that what women ultimately want is to ensure that their families and friends are well-catered for, Little Darlings, Atlantic Department store, Atlantic Kids, Bedazzled, Red Sail’s boutiques, Cayman Pharmacy, KY Imaging and Sticky Toffee Pudding also displayed their products, which ranged from the latest toys, desserts, casual and formal ware for Christmas to many on-trend healthcare options.

Most visitors paced themselves and so certainly got to see all that was available in the way of entertainment, information, relaxation and beautification at the bustling event.
