Police: Man arrested for brandishing weapon

A 31-year-old man was arrested following an incident in the Bodden Town area last night where several people were threatened with a firearm, the Royal Cayman Islands Police Service reported.

At about 9.30pm Monday, police said a man and a woman were involved in a dispute outside Water Boyz Liquor Store in Bodden Town Road.

During the fight, police said the man brandished a firearm, threatening the woman and a number of people who were standing nearby. No shots were fired and no-one was injured.

The man and woman then left the scene, according to police.

A search for the suspect was launched and a short time later the man was arrested in Shamrock Road, Bodden Town. He was arrested on suspicion of possession of an unlicensed firearm and threatening behavior.

Detective Constable Elizabeth Berns is appealing for any witnesses to the incident to come forward.

    Another young man awaits trial because the person arrested in this case says he SAW a gun.

    Both had/have been subsequently charged for possession of a fire arm, based on the reports made to the police.

    It will be most interesting to see how the police handles this matter.
