Young performer hones talent

Young Caymanian student Dru Bodden is set to begin an acting career or to feature as a talent in commercials, having recently completed a course in the performing arts at the Lisa Maile Image, Modelling and Acting School in Winter Park, Florida.

Dru, a student at Triple C School, was the only international student to be enrolled in the programme and from 11 September to 5 December 2010. She commuted on weekends to attend classes in Image and Confidence Development and On Camera Teen Acting.

Graduates of the modelling and acting School often pursue careers in commercials, modelling, feature films, television and radio. The school has been training talent in Central Florida since 1982 and is the home of John Peros Casting.

As a graduate, Dru, 13, is now officially a member of the Lisa Maile casting list, which means she is eligible for any suitable casting calls, including with ABC, NBC, Disney and Nickelodeon, as well as for work in films.

During her studies, Dru also had the opportunity to test read for companies such as Taco Bell, Starbucks and Sea World. An aspiring performer and singer, Dru has completed work on a single, Lil Boss, and is working on additional songs for an album release this year in both Cayman and Florida.

Describing her time at the Lisa Maile School, Dru said: “It was a dream come true and a wonderful experience that gave me the chance to do what I love – being in the performing arts.”

She will return to the school in February for an interview and to begin the second part of her classes in acting.

Dru’s parents, Matthew and Stephanie Norris, said they are proud of their daughter and the way she dedicated herself to the 12-week programme, even though it involved weekly travelling.

“Dru has always been passionate about music and the theatre arts, and I am so pleased that she had the opportunity to begin fulfilling her dream of being in this field. This has only been possible by the kind support of several sponsors and Triple C School, which allowed her the time to participate in the programme,” Mrs. Norris said.

Dru’s sponsors were Green Holdings Ltd; Kenrick Webster; Eldon Rankin; Auto Haus; Aviation Communications; Western Union; Stuarts Walker Hersant; Paramount Media; JEN International; Cayman Airways; The Ministry of Tourism and MLA Dwayne Seymour.
