Traditional crafts are on offer on Wednesday, 16 February on Cayman Brac.
The session is at Brac Reef Beach Resort from 3-5pm and features the silver thatch talents of Annalee Ebanks, says Saskia Edwards of Cayman Brac Heritage House.
“She is very skilled in her work and she often takes the time to provide that one-on-one attention when teaching her mastered craft and she shares in their joy when they create something.
She usually brings some of her own handmade items to the classes to display as well.”
The class is part of the ongoing series that allows tourists – and locals, of course – an opportunity to interact with artisans while learning about Caymanian culture.”
As well as seeing the sheer skill involved in creating these objects, of course, it’s also an opportunity to get closer to the history and craft that made the Cayman Islands.
“During a session guests are told about the historical significance behind the items they make and the materials that are used.
In addition to creating a one-of-a-kind souvenir, this great social activity leaves participants with a fun, educational experience and deep appreciation for Caymanian culture.
“Apart from walking away with the knowledge of learning a traditional Caymanian trade and making a one-of-a-kind souvenir, those who attend the session will quickly come to learn that Mrs. Annalee is a very friendly individual who is quite willing and eager to share her talents with others,” says Saskia.
