Cayman Islands Under-19 team led by Darren Cato left for Fort Lauderdale, USA on Saturday for the ICC Americas championships.
Other competing countries are Argentina, Bermuda, Bahamas, Canada and USA. The minister of sports Mark Scotland was at the airport to see the team off. He said: “I am pleased to be here to see the team off to this important engagement.
“I am particularly impressed by your attire. For small nations like ours it is always difficult to compete against the larger countries like USA, Canada, Bermuda and Argentina. All I ask of you is to give your best on and off the field.”
The team officials are coach Andy Myles, assistant coach Franklin Hinds and manager Ricardo Sealy. The team will play five matches and return on Sunday.
Cayman lost their first match against Bermuda by 4 runs with Sacha De Alwis 92 runs and Gregory Davis 26 not out. On day 2 Cayman defeated Argentina with Sacha De Alwis scoring 108 not out.
