Book Loft volunteers feted

The Board of Directors of the Cayman Islands Humane Society recently hosted a cheese and wine appreciation evening for the Book Loft volunteers.

“The directors wished to thank the volunteers in person. The board depends on their dedicated service in making the Book Loft such a success and profitable part of the Humane Society’s funding,” said Carolyn Parker, president of the Humane Society.

Among the 18 volunteers attending the function were previous manager Kendy Steeves and new manager Kim Blackwell.

The Book Loft has a wide selection of books in various genres, from paperback fiction to travel and history.

The store also includes a section of children’s books and educational games, as well as other items including CDs and DVDs, games and puzzles.

There is a special box at the front of the Humane Society for items donated to the Book Loft.

The volunteers can also help customers find a specific title or books by specific authors and will also suggest alternative titles and authors.

Although the Book Loft has been one of the success stories at the Humane Society, along with the Thrift Shop, the society needs volunteers in order to keep the shop open during operating hours at the shelter on North Sound Road.
