$2,500 donation boosts Seafarers’ scholarship fund

The Cayman Islands Seafarers Association has received a $2,500 donation from Cayman National for the Gwen Bush Scholarship Fund to support young Caymanians with an interest in boat-building.

Representatives of the Association said there is currently one young person already on scholarship. He is attending the International Yacht Restoration School in Newport, Rhode Island.

“We wish to thank Cayman National for support and extend an invitation to the Caymanian public to visit the Seafarers Association to learn of their efforts to keep alive the marine history and culture of the Caymanian people,” said past president Hartman Da Costa.

Claudia Welds, corporate communication senior officer at Cayman National, said, “Cayman National is pleased to support such a cause and recognise the significance of our maritime and seafarers’ heritage. We wish the organisation every success in their future endeavours…”
