Survivors of the earthquake and tsunami that devastated Japan will soon receive support from the people of Cayman.
The Cayman Loves Japan cocktail reception will be held at Taikun Restaurant at the Ritz-Carlton, Grand Cayman on Saturday, 16 April, from 7-9pm.
Tickets are $50 each at the door, with all proceeds going to Red Cross Japan.
“We thought because of what happened there, we should do something to help out… to do something for a good cause,” said Cayman Loves Japan’s coordinator Rika Arai. “And we know that Red Cross Japan is the most direct charitable organisation to help victims.”
Ms Arai is from Nagoya. Though that city wasn’t directly affected by the earthquake and tsunami, Ms Arai has many family members and friends still in Japan who are dealing with the aftermath, so she feels compelled to help out in any way she can.
“Our plan is to have Japan relief charity events at multiple restaurants and cafes in Cayman, and so far we have received quite good feedback from the places we visited,” she said.
“Ritz has been a great sponsor and supporter of this event.”
Other sponsors include Jacques Scott and Tortuga Rum Company.
