It may seem a long way off but don’t be fooled – the 34th annual Pirates Week will be here before you know it.
This year, in keeping with the 25th Celebration of Cayman’s Marine Parks, the theme will be Cayman’s Marine Life.
“We are asking help from the public in designing the official T-shirt and we are offering a cash prize for the winner,” says Pat Bazell-Taylor of the Pirates Week Office.
Rules & Entry forms can be downloaded from www.piratesweekfestival.com or you can collect one from the Pirates Week office. To contact the office, call 949-5078 or email [email protected]
A new sponsor this year and the first to become involved for 2011 is Davenport Development. The silver sponsor will contribute to the promotion and organisation of the parade.
Paul Pearson, the director, fondly remembers past Pirates Week events, in particular, the float parade.
“This is a real opportunity for Davenport to assist the community in creating lasting positive memories for all who attend,” he says.
In addition to financial sponsorship, Davenport Development is partnering with Flowers Foam to promote green thinking. Davenport Development will partner with Flowers Foam to offer 18-inch-by-4-foot insulated concrete form blocks and scrap foam to all float parade entrants (with restrictions). Schools will receive five blocks free; all others will receive three.
Davenport and Flowers Foam will sponsor two prizes:
The Davenport trophy, with a cash prize of $1,000 for the best decorated float or costume (in the walking group category) using Flowers ICF or foam products.
Flowers Foam trophy, with a cash prize of $500 for the winning school using its product.
