What is said to be the only functioning windmill in Grand Cayman is found at the Tortuga Rum Company’s plant off North Sound Road. It is used to keep the grounds at the facility watered year round; though the water is not potable.
According to a Tortuga Rum representative, the Armotor Windmill was restored in Texas at a cost of $4,900. It was originally made in Chicago in 1892 for $25.00. This type of windmill is still being made in San Angelo, Texas, and is used extensively throughout the USA farm industry to pump water for cattle.
