The Cayman Islands Equestrian Federation hosted the second leg of the Caribbean Equestrian Association Junior Jumping Competition at the Equestrian Centre of the Cayman Islands last week and both local riders did exceptionally well.
Three countries visited to compete against Cayman – Trinidad & Tobago’s Mariel Lanser and Adelle Stollmeyer, Jamaica’s Sayan Johnston and Sara Misir and the Barbados pair Isobella Copeland and Erin Stephany.
Cayman’s riders were Thea Millward in the .75 metre division and Polly Serpell in the .80m division.
This competition was Millward’s first and Serpell’s second CEA Junior Jumping Competition. Each country rider rode two horses on two courses on Saturday and then again on Sunday.
The visiting countries used Cayman horses to compete on and had to be confident riders as they only had five timed minutes on each horse before they entered the jumping arena to jump a course of eight jumps in their division and height. Upcoming CEA Junior Jumping Competitions that Cayman will be attending in 2011 are the Trinidad event from 24-25 September and Jamaica from 5-6 November.
