John Gray spruced up

John Gray High School has received a spruce up as part of Digicel’s Helping Hands community development project.

Marketing Communications Manager A. Sharez Laws said, “We approached John Gray High School and expressed our interest in assisting the school in any way possible. They were very receptive and we collectively agreed to do a clean-up, including painting and planting of trees. We have committed to demonstrating our role in our community, this is our fourth project and we look forward to touching the lives in our community consistently throughout the year. ”

The project which started at 8am on Saturday, 4 June, at the school compound on Walkers Road and drew voluntary assistance from over 50 residents including Digicel staff, parents, teachers and members of the student body. The team braved the summer heat to plant trees and paint sections of the property in the five hour exercise. Digicel also donated all the materials that were used in the initiative valued at over $2,000.

Acting Principal of John Gray High School, Lyneth Monteith said, “Partnership with the community enables John Gray High School to expand and enhance what is offered to our students. Caring for the school’s physical environment is an important lesson for our students and I am pleased that the Digicel group approached John Gray High School to partner on this very important project. The commitment of human resources as well as items for the project enabled us to cover many areas and has certainly given the school a new look.”

Digicel has always been a champion for community and social development, undertaking many projects since the company launched in the Cayman Islands on March 4, 2004. Since then, Digicel has launched many environmentally-friendly products including E-Billing to reduce paper use and carbon footprint, as well as promoting environmentally safe practices. Digicel has reinforced its commitment through recent efforts including a similar project at Prospect Primary school and cleaning of the South Sound beach shoreline in recent times. The company is committed to sustainable environmental preservation practices through corporate initiatives.
