Management skills courses focus on best practices

Since April, 25 people have completed management skills courses and 10 of the participants have completed all three management skills workshops offered by the Cayman Islands Chamber of Commerce.  

Instructor Rod Waddell, who has 20 years’ experience in training, team building and organisational development, said he was impressed with the candidates.  

Three courses in a series were offered at the Professional Development and Training Centre in Governors Square. The courses were geared toward managers and supervisors looking to upgrade their skills and learn about best business practices in the following areas:  

Pinpointing and resolving employee performance problems 

Identifying employee motivational “hot buttons”

Using non-financial rewards to build business results in key performance areas  

Driving employee performance and building customer value with coaching strategies for all personality types and skill levels 

Creating a culture of achievement, not entitlement  

Using a conflict survey to identify personal strengths and weaknesses 

Identifying different types of conflict at work and selecting the best strategy to resolve them quickly and quietly 

Using assertive behaviour rather than aggressive or passive behaviour  

Defusing conflict using a five-step method to gain control and mitigate losses  

Using body language and active listening skills to defuse escalating conflict situations  

Keeping your cool and standing your ground while reaching a solution  

Learning to resolve conflicts before cross-communication turns into roadblocks.
