The best gospel singers in Cayman and the Caribbean were honoured for their impressive voices this month at an awards ceremony.
Dancers, producers, promoters, radio personalities and magazine publishers were also recognised for their contributions at the ceremony at Triple C School hall.
The Reverend Courtney Jacobs of the Assemblies of the First Born Church said there were 29 awardees.
“Some awards were based on contribution to society and others due to the level of effort expanded by awareness in sharing the gospel, not only in the Cayman Islands, but also at the international level,” said Reverend Jacobs.
Among the awardees were Gloria Wilks, Anthony Thompson, Opal Lorraine, Albut Gray, the United Pentecostal Church choir, Beryl Solomon, Love 103.1 FM, Maurice Falconer, New Generation Dancers, Roderick Brown, Lorna Eccleston, Carlton Clemmings, Clive Bennett, Neville Lawrence, Junior Johnson, Paul’s Group, Pastor Jacobs, David Morgan, Claude Bailey, Ian Miller, Cederick France, Winroy Randol and Karen Chin each received an award.
Ms Eccleston swept the board of awards, winning the No. 1 Female Single, No. 1 Female Album, Ambassador Award, No. 1 Lyrical Contents Awards and Caribbean Award/Female Album-Singles.
“The purpose of this event, being the first ever Gospel National Awards for the Cayman Islands was to highlight and recognise the true feature of the Cayman local artistes-ministers ministering for the development of the Kingdom of god in various areas such as singing, helping the needy, gospel production and more,” Reverend Jacobs said.
The awards ceremony was organised by the Assemblies of the First Born Church in association with the Jesus Man Promotion of Barbados and the Old Landmark Promotion from Bahamas.
“Our objective for the future is to develop young minds for the deeper teaching of the Gospel of Jesus Christ through singing, striving for excellence and professionalism in every area of their ministry on the international level,” Revenend Jacobs said.
