Vettel slips up in wet

The mighty Sebastian Vettel is human after all.

An uncharacteristic last lap mistake allowed Jenson Button to complete what was arguably one of the greatest comeback drives in history. After having to pit six times (including a drive through penalty), the Englishman mounted an epic charge on a very wet track back to the front of the grid. Despite the two hour rain delay, the 2011 Canadian Grand Prix secured its place in F1 folklore.

Nevertheless Vettel and his Red Bull machine are still overwhelming favourites in Valencia this weekend. Vettel won the European Grand Prix last season and I am sure he justifiably believes that Jenson Button didn’t win the last race as much as it was him that lost it. Don’t expect a repeat performance from the reigning world champ.

Furthermore Vettel has yet to finish lower than second place and has won all but two in the seven races already completed.

Although there has been heavy criticism of the Drag Reduction System (which allows the rear wing to be opened up for an additional burst of speed), no one can argue with the fact that it has increased overtaking and provided immense entertainment. Couple that with the unpredictable nature of the Pirelli tires and there has been guaranteed excitement throughout the field.
