Lions and Leos install officers

Members of The Lions and Leo Club of the Cayman Islands gathered recently for a joint officer installation ceremony. Held at LUCA on 18 June, the installation ceremony marked the induction of the 2011-2012 officers for both clubs.

The event, which was led by Master of Ceremonies Alfonso Wright, began by paying tribute to Lion’s Club members who past away during the last year. A candle was lit for each of the fallen Lions. The event carried on with outgoing speeches and incoming acceptance speeches, toasts and a lunch put on by the venue restaurant, LUCA.

For the Lions Club, Donnel O’Sullivan, became the immediate past president as Mitch Ebanks took over for the 2011-2012 year.

Upon accepting his position to serve as President of The Lions Club of Grand Cayman during its 2011-2012 Lionistic Year Lion President (Elect) Mitch Ebanks said, “I am very proud to accept the position of President of this Club. The names of those before me are all men and women of great character. They have dedicated their lives to the betterment of our community. Needless to say, the foundation has been laid for me; there is a path to follow and huge shoes to fill and I look forward to following in such a legacy of those great men that have served.

“I became a Lion initially for two reasons. The first was that it is inherent in me to be a helper, as is evident by my profession as a Counsellor. The second is that I was attracted to the members because of the camaraderie displayed at projects, especially the Lions breakfast and delivery of Christmas morning gifts to the elderly throughout our island. These primary factors, being a helper and camaraderie, speak to my theme as President for this Lionistic year 2011-12. My theme is ‘Working hard for a Better Community, being rewarded in Camaraderie’,” he said.

Similarly, LEO Club member Jerrique Seymour marked the end of his year as president as Cedric Gidarisingh stepped up to become the new president for the 2011-2012 year.

“It is truly an honour to be elected President of the LEO Club of Grand Cayman,” Gidarisingh said. “I would like to express sincere thanks to my fellow members for giving me this opportunity to put my stake in the ground as a leader of this outstanding group of young professionals. My theme for 2011/2012 ‘Working as a Team to better Serve’ signifies, as a team we will work towards more accomplishments and together we can double or even triple our successes. My main focus will be membership growth and to keep the LEO Club at the forefront of community outreach.”
