Button’s faint hope is rain

Red Bull Racing is rewriting the history books with the start they have had this season. Sebastian Vettel is now the only man to have finished first or second in the first eight races of the season.

He has also passed Lewis Hamilton’s win total of 15 after notching his 16th win in Valencia. Vettel now stands 27 points ahead of Jenson Button in the championship which means he could miss the next three races and still retain the lead.

The ninth round is the British Grand Prix and with it always comes the possibility of rain. That has to be what Button is hoping for as the only time the young German has shown any weakness this season was in the wet at the Canadian Grand Prix.

Still, Vettel is himself a brilliant driver in the wet as his maiden victory came on a very wet Monza circuit in 2008. Ferrari have looked very strong over the last few races with Alonso capturing a few podiums.

If the prancing horse wishes to mount a charge they must do so now. Renault started the season with two early podiums, but that early season form has faded. In their place, Mercedes have shown potential but have yet to convert that into a trip to the podium.

Silverstone should offer an entertaining race, especially if it rains but the only true threat to Vettel this weekend may be the pilot of the other Red Bull.

Be sure to watch the race with the other local Formula One fans at the Lone Star Restaurant on Sunday morning at 9am.
