Cayman fencing gets a boost next month with another set of classes by Jean Goto.
Goto, who hails from New York, is slated to be in Cayman 14-21 August. On Sunday 14 August there will be a free training session and exhibition fencing bout 1-2pm. That session is primarily geared to newcomers or anyone interested in learning a little more about the sport with organizers only able to accommodate up to 20 people.
For the record Goto has been to Cayman some six times in the last two years to lead classes. Goto is a notable fencing coach and runs her own Connecticut business called Greenwich Fencing.
The children’s portion of the fencing classes (aimed at ages 7-12) takes place from Monday 15 August to Friday 19 August 3-5pm. The adult segment takes place on Friday evening 6-8pm and on Saturday and Sunday 20-21 August from 12.30pm to 2.30pm. Only five spaces are left.
Organizer Joanna Humphries states spaces in general are limited for the gym-based classes.
“All sessions will take place at World Gym, with entrance via Purple Dragon,” Humphries said. “Once again, we cannot thank Purple Dragon enough – without them the fencing club simply wouldn’t happen.
“There are still a few places available but please contact me at [email protected] quickly if you are interested.”
