Roberto Logioia, Blackbeard’s wine specialist, recently was recognised as a Certified Sommelier by the Court of Master Sommeliers following an intensive examination in Washington, DC.
Roberto, who is a familiar face to wine lovers at Blackbeard’s Grand Harbour store, is now two levels away from the exclusive ranks of Master Sommeliers, to which only 180 wine professionals have belonged since the first Master Sommelier exam in the 1970s.
“I am delighted to have received this certification,” says Roberto. “This qualification is important to professionals in our industry.”
The Certified Sommelier examination sets a high minimum standard of the knowledge and service of wine required by professionals in the hospitality industry, as well as providing students with a credential to show that their skills have been evaluated at a high level of proficiency by the world’s leading authority on service.
The Court of Master Sommeliers was established in 1977 to promote excellence in hotel and restaurant beverage service.
