Dive companies culling lion fish problem

The treacherous red lion fish is here in Cayman waters eating and reproducing its way through everything it sees without discrimination. The danger to Cayman’s reefs is real.

Many dive shops and stores have stepped to the plate – in every sense – in order to assist in controlling and culling these non-indigenous intruders which threaten to destroy the diversity and beauty of the waters which attract so many people to these islands.

Divetech is one of those and the dive company has announced a series of trips and events over the next month in conjunction with various sponsors and courses. Luckily the fish makes good eating and this is a feature of many of the cull-and-cook events being set up to combat the menace.

Saturday, 27 August from 12.45 to 4.30: A free two-tank lion fish cull – sponsored by Colin Shaw & Co. and The Machine Shop/Ron Moser
