Fashion Solstice returns

It is less than six weeks until the Cayman Fashion Solstice, billed as a “fashion, entertainment and lifestyle event” returns to Cayman’s shores on 20 October.

“The idea for Cayman Fashion Solstice is to bring together designers, celebrities, models and local and international media,” said Cindy Rosan-Jones, principal organiser and managing director of Guavaberry Marketing. “One of our goals is to increase tourism while improving the tourism product. The event will generate increased awareness of the Cayman Islands as a chic and sophisticated destination.”

Warm up events including a launch party, a three-day workshop for aspiring models and a casting call have already taken place over the past few weeks, raising awareness of the event locally. A further casting call with be held on 20 September, as organisers are hoping to increase the number of local models taking part.

The core of the Fashion Solstice will take place over the weekend of 20-23 October and will comprise a number of events including parties, casting calls, pop up shops and a fashion show.

Guavaberry Marketing has partnered with Signature by Terry Donovan Events, a New York based fashion event management company, which will bring its expertise and contacts in the international fashion industry to the event.

“We have an amazing celebrity and guest host for this year’s event,” said Ms Rosan-Jones, although names have not yet been revealed.

In addition to parties at different venues in the evenings, this year’s event will include a day of pop up stores, where it is hoped that local stores Sand Angels and GabznGabz will showcase their stock alongside international designers such as Korto Momolu, Claudia Pegus and Johnny Vincent, giving residents a rare opportunity to purchase some designer clothing.

The climax of the event will be the fashion gala on Saturday, 22 October, when local and international models will take to the runway to show off some unique lines from designers Kevan Hall, Korto Momolu and Cesar Galindo as well as local designers Jawara Alleyne, GabznGabz and Kidan Brooks.

Ms Rosan-Jones hopes that the series of events will give local designers, models and entertainers some valuable exposure at the same time as boosting tourism in the Cayman Islands.
