Competitors in the fourth annual War on Weight competition have survived their first week of the intense fitness programme.
The participants underwent four days of boot camp with trainers Ernest and Bruce of Body Sculptor, to kick off the 16-week programme and finished the week with a morning yoga class sponsored by Body Works.
Contestant Ian Yearwood said of the first week: “The boot camp has been a very big change for me going from inactivity to activity.”
Participant Ruth Grizzel admitted she found the first week of boot camp was hard work, but said: “I did learn that I can do it and it will not kill me.”
“I have even noticed that I can do simple things like bending down to pick up something is so much easier. I’m amazed at how much of a difference only one week can do,” she added.
Following their week of exercise instruction, the contestants walked to GNC where they received complimentary multivitamins and were told of the benefits of taking them daily as part of their new fitness regime.
David Pattaway discussed with the competitors the important role that multivitamins play in boosting energy levels and meeting the body’s requirements of vitamins and minerals.
The War on Weight contest, hosted by the Cayman Islands Heart Fund, aims to educate participants on diet, exercise and overall health, as well as provide them with the tools and drive to continue weight loss in the months after the programme’s completion.
Ten competitors are taking part in this year’s contest.
The initiative has helped the previous 30 contestants achieve a collective weight loss of over 800 pounds.
