In spite of inclement weather the Fosters Food Fair 800 metre swim went off as usual on Saturday.
Over 100 swimmers came out to compete in the annual event which started at Governor’s Beach and wrapped up at the Public Beach. Among the notable competitors were Frankie Flowers and veteran open water swimmer Bill McFarland.
To no surprise the top finishers would be youngsters in the under-20 bracket. Leading the charge would be Geoffrey Butler, 15, who placed first overall in a time around 10 minutes, 33 seconds. Butler was second to Seiji Groome last year.
Interestingly Groome and Lara Butler, the 2010 winners, would both be absent from this year’s field as they were off Island.
Alex McCallum would come second, improving on last year’s third place showing. The first female swimmer home would be Danielle Boothe, who came seventh overall.
For the record the Fosters meet is in its 27th year on the Cayman Islands Amateur Swimming Association open water swimming schedule.
