Money: I don’t need Pac

Floyd Mayweather is fresh off winning another title but continues to downplay the notion of facing Filipino legend Manny Pacquiao.

Mayweather, 34, states the prospect of a fight with Pacquiao for one of the largest purses in history seems as distant as ever.

“I don’t need Pacquiao,” Mayweather said. “Where was Pacquiao from 1996 to 2001 when I was dominating the game? He never asked me (for a fight) when I was in my twenties or when I was in my teens.”

Over the weekend Mayweather knocked out Victor Ortiz to claim the World Boxing Council welterweight title. Mayweather won the fight by catching Ortiz with two decisive blows when the champion thought referee Joe Cortez had called ‘break.’ From there he grew irritable at HBO commentator Merchant’s repeated questions about the controversial nature of his win. He states he is tired of the hall of fame announcer not giving him kudos.

“I don’t regret what I said. Everybody is tired of Larry Merchant. He said if he was 50 years younger, that he would kick my ass. All of these boxing experts – how can you be a boxing expert if you never had a fight before? They can use somebody else up to give me an interview. HBO need to fire him. He don’t know [expletive] about boxing. He ain’t [expletive].”
