Local slammers had a good showing against a visiting dominoes team.
The Cayman Islands saw two squads face off with a South Florida side over the weekend. Last Friday the Cayman Select side faced the South Florida team at Temperature Lounge (formally Corner Pocket). It was a very good game which saw South Florida dominating the first half of the match with a 20 point lead. However when the second half resumed, Cayman came back strong and knocked off 19 points with South Florida team winning narrowly by only one point. The Most Valuable Players for this match were Elvis Bodden and Teddy Guthry.
On Saturday South Florida faced the Island All-Stars team at Mango Tree, with Island Star dominating throughout the match to win by nine points. On Sunday it was the same with Island All-Star strong throughout the entire match to win by 24 points and capture the championship trophy. The MVPs for both of these matches were Sharon Legister and Seymour Ellis of Island All-Star.
Cayman will play a return leg against the same South Florida squad in Ft. Lauderdale next February. Island All Stars president Derek Elliott Senior thanked everyone who attended and stated that the competition was about providing international exposure for Cayman players.
News of the competition comes ahead of the 2011-2012 domino season, tentatively slated to start this month.
