Underwater Film Festival will delight visitors

Save the date of Monday, 7 November, for the always fabulous Underwater Film Festival.

The venue is the Westin Casuarina Resort and Spa and there will be four fab films shown. Howard and Michele Hall will present their Underwater Imax Film Production, Andre Laban his Iris and Oniris, Alan Power’s Wreck of the President Coolidge and there will be a feature presentation of the ex-USS Kittiwake.

The shindig begins at 6.30pm in the Governor’s Ballroom with cocktails and a silent auction. The Underwater Film Festival is a fundraiser for the Cayman Islands Tourism Association and proceeds support the association’s marine conservation efforts including Dive 365, underwater and coastal clean-ups, lionfish culling materials, Kittiwake maintenance, government liaison and office and staff.

The silent auction includes artworks, signed books, scuba gear, dive travel packages and more. There’s also the Lobster Lotto where every (rubber) lobster bought is a winner – whether a key chain, dive package, T-shirt or other prizes.

“Not only is the Underwater Film Festival an important fundraiser for the Cayman Islands Tourism Association’s marine conservation efforts, but it is also an incredible opportunity to see films put together by dive legends who are inducted into the International Scuba Diving Hall of Fame,” said Rod McDowall, water sports director of the Cayman Islands Tourism Association.

The Hall of Fame presentation is on Tuesday, 8 November, at Grand Old House where the film presenters will be inducted into that auspicious community.

“These events are a wonderful example of the fantastic results that can take place when the Cayman Islands Tourism Association – private sector and the Department of Tourism – government collaborate and partner to create a successful series of events together,” said Trina Savage-Christian in reference to the Underwater Film Festival, International Scuba Diving Hall of Fame and Scubabowl, which is the dive industry familiarisation event which draws key tourism partners to the Cayman Islands.

Tickets for the film festival are $25.

The Underwater Film Festival is sponsored by the Cayman Islands Department of Tourism, Aqualung, DAN, ORIS Watches, Island Companies and Caribbean Canvas Company.

Tickets are on sale at the Cayman Islands Tourism Association Office, the Department of Tourism, Cathy Church Photo Centre, Divetech, Red Sail Office and Lobster Pot Dive Centre.
