A public meeting to inform George Town residents about the purpose, scope and composition of the new Advisory District Councils will take place at 6.30pm at the Town Hall in George Town on Tuesday.
The premier and George Town representatives will be on hand to discuss the formation of a George Town Advisory District Council. The Cayman Islands Constitution calls for the establishment of Advisory District Councils for each electoral district to advise members of the Legislative Assembly.
Among the items on the agenda is the nomination process for appointments to the George Town Advisory District Council. While the Governor-in-Cabinet appoints the members of the Advisory District Councils and designates the four officers, there is provision for regular council members to include persons nominated by the Leader of the Opposition, opposition and independent MLAs and the public, as well as by the ruling party. A date for nominations will be set during this meeting.
Audience members will be able to get questions they have about the George Town Advisory District Council clarified at the meeting.
