Focus shifts to December race

Breakers Speedway started the month off with a bang and all eyes now are on its last event.

The 1/8 mile track recently hosted the ‘Monster Dash’ event, organized by the Cayman Islands Drag Racing Association. The meet was an explosive one, in terms of runs and news that Breakers will officially close for good in December.

Drag racing association marketing officer Michael Webster states the November meet should be an indicator of what’s to come.

“The race day was great, not too hot, little breeze and no rain,” Webster said. “Donald (Francis) in Plan B (his Honda Civic) ran the same exact time of 7.011 seconds and then ran a personal best of 6.984s at 107mph. Congrats to him and all the winners. Also special mention goes to our female winner Tynisa Forsythe in the black Mitsubishi Evolution III.

“I’m really looking forward to the 11 December race, as this will be the last race of the season and also the last race at Breakers. For the race, Napa has officials coming down from Miami for this historic event. We would like to thank (Speedway owner) Robert Campbell for making the track available.

“Also we’re hoping to get some record-breaking times with Bad Oil (Michael Williams) bringing his Mad-u-matic Evo III back from Jamaica. Hoping to see Ronnie (Forbes) into the fives with Sammy (Jackson) and Billy (Ebanks) back on the track. Also hope to see all the bike guys and all the other drivers in Dave Thompson, Junior Hydes, Ian Charlery, A.J. Connolly, Banks (Kenrick Baker), Minroy Hydes, Tom Kirkconnell, Cliff Weeks and his yellow Evo and Johnny Salas in the black Supra.

“At this point I would just like to thank the sponsors Napa, The Security Centre, Multi-Images and all the drag racing association officials. We would not have a race day without each of these.”
