Living the Dream divers has brought a new dive boat to the Cayman Islands.
“She is a Newton dive vessel,” said Gary Frost of Living the Dream.
“Newton is the No. 1 dive boat out there all over the world,” he said. “They pioneered a boat specifically for diving, which is what they do. She is 40 feet long tip to tip, designed for divers in mind from the beginning concept and is 14 feet wide, which is a huge beam.
“She is built to US Coast Guard standard,” Mr. Frost said. “These boats are the latest designs with fibreglass hull and you get the sense when you walk on that it can handle what it is doing.” Larry Newton, Mr. Frost said, is something of a legend in the dive industry and his boats are sought after.
“There are two kinds of divers – those who have Newton boats and those who want to have them.”
Although the vessel is certified for 24 divers, Living the Dream intend only to take groups of a maximum size of eight out. This, said Gary’s wife, Liz, is for a specific reason to do with the company’s modus operandi.
“We have the biggest boat with the smallest groups and we strive to give people the personal service,” she said. “There are a lot of great dive sites and dive operators but what we wanted to do was live by the fact that it is a valet service that we offer.
“It has been our dream for the last 15 years and this was the boat we always wanted to have,” she said. “Our first boat was a 1996 Newton and we are happy to have that one but to be able to bring this to the island and offer our guests a product is the right thing to do. She is the first dive boat here in a decade.”
The Cayman Islands, Mr. Frost said, is a place feted worldwide for good reason.
“This place is very special to the dive industry,” he said. “We are the industry standard throughout; always in the top five places to go in the world. It is still really exciting – and it has always done very well because of the standards that the industry here has.”
