Ladies tip off early

Netball is expect to start Cayman’s national women’s competition soon.

The Cayman Islands Netball Association open league is slated to begin next month at the Truman Bodden Sports Complex netball courts. Association vice president Norma Ferryman states teams are still in the process of registration.

“The adult netball league begins on 7 January at 6pm at Truman Bodden,” Ferryman said. “All teams and clubs who wish to play games in this league need to contact me. Thanks to those teams who have (already) completed registration.”

Focus for the 2012 league should fall on Roma. The green and yellow warriors won the A and B division, under the watchful eye of team manager Stacy-Ann Dehaney, thanks to stars like Carrie Barnett and Jahzenia Thomas.

News of the competition’s start date comes after the annual opening parade last month. Truman Bodden saw teams from local schools and clubs strut their stuff. Unity netball club, under the new name of Flames, would place first in the adult divisions. Red Bay Primary School were the Under-9 and Under-11 category winners while John Gray High School had the top three teams in the U14 and U16 sections.
