Cayman Glamorous Granny Committee crowned three winners at the Harquail Theatre on Saturday, 17 December, in Grand Cayman. The winners recognised were SherrAnn Smith, who took the title of Cayman Golden Girl; Evelyn Walsh, crowned Bold and Beautiful; and Merita Connor, who won Modern Miss.
Twelve contestants competed in categories including talent, business wear, interviewing, and an evening gown presentation. Judges were Dana Bush, Colin Wilson, Merle McCann and Devite McLean.
Although the pageant drew a small crowd, those who did attend gave their full support to the contestants performing and to 82-year-old director Jewel Smalldon for hosting the pageant.
The night’s event included contestants performing an opening number as the Black and White Minstrels, a special number “Santa Baby”, sung by Kim Mullings and joyful banter between hosts Bernie Bush and Mel Vance.
When the night was finished, contestants Winsome Johnson was awarded Miss Congenially, Suzzette Nelson took home Ms Photogenic, Darene Scott earned Best Costume; Merita Connor claimed Best Gown and Lavern Warren won Miss Beauty.
Mrs. Smalldon said this was a good outlet for the ladies to meet people and give back to the community.
Proceeds from this year’s pageant will go toward assisting the children of Anna Evans, who went missing earlier this year. Additional proceeds go toward other charities.
