Get ready to throw some shapes

The night has finally arrived for Cayman to show the world how lissomly energetic our bodies and how glowing our minds are.

Yes, friends, it’s the long-awaited Ministry of Sound World Tour and it takes place at Heineken Warehouse on Friday, 13 January. The Shedden Road-based event begins at 8pm and features a host of spectacular DJs including Ministry of Sound tour resident, Paul Deighton.

Paul tells us his style is fluid.

“It always depends on the crowd, the venue and the vibe,” he says. “I bounce off them and vice versa. A floor filler is Stop Playing With My Mind (Paul Deighton’s Classic Twist Mix) – it’s not released yet.

“I am really looking forward to watching a whole set of people I’ve never met before go crazy to house music – plus the good and the local folk music, which is always interesting to check out wherever I go.”

Keeping up the local end of things is well-known disc spinner Billy Courduroy. He is very much looking forward to the bash and showing the visiting DJs the Island.

“[I’m excited to introduce them to] the beautiful people of the 345 and show that the Cayman Islands is a future destination for electronic dance music.

“If 2011 was any indication, then most definitely Cayman can build on its reputation and become a Caribbean Ibiza.”

The tunes are also brought by Tom Craven of Illusion Records, a DJ with a classic outlook and a modern twist, as eagle-eyed readers of previous Weekenders will attest. Indeed, the Mancunian DJ and Illusion Records guru told us he was very much up for the party – so let’s not let him down.

Exciting lineup

Completing the exciting lineup is the brilliant upcomer Oli Furness of Tact Recordings / Recore Records. He explains that his DJing style is raw and definitely made for the floor.

“My mixing style is not all about long intricate blends, I enjoy resetting dance floors with power downs and fast cutting mixes as well, anything that keeps the dancefloor full of energy.

“Although I will be doing a live set at the main event, which is a collection of original productions smashed into a thousand pieces and lovingly brought back together,” he explains.

Oli’s promising some hot tracks and says that NY Stomp, an Illusion Records release, is hammering the dance floors right now. As for the rest, he says we’ll have to wait and see.

One thing’s for sure, though – Oli’s star is rising fast with three releases at the start of 2012 plus extensive touring in Japan, America and Europe.

“In the studio and gig-wise it’s looking busy,” he says.

“Just found out my debut in Japan when I warmed up for Basement Jaxx for the Hacienda Japan parties in Tokyo was named the best party in Japan for the whole of 2011 – so hopefully that’s a good indication of how we bring the party!

“I am definitely looking forward to seeing how much you guys like to party!”
