All Stars netball club have their focus on a solid season run.
The A team is in action this Saturday, 4 February, at 6.30pm against rookie team the Flames Strikers.
The netball courts at Truman Bodden Sports Complex will serve as venue for the Cayman Islands Netball Association 2012 open league clash.
For veteran scorer Pauline Bodden, Saturday’s contest is practice for tougher games in the future.
“We have a good thing going,” Bodden said. “We can use this as a warm-up for games scheduled to come. We have stiffer games coming up. We’ve been practicing with a lot of training and focus on physical fitness. We will be in top form in time.”
Flames figure to be far from an easy victory.
The side recently toppled Unity B 22-7 in their season opener behind experienced offensive talent in former Maples and Calder players Latoya Nixon and Rochelle Webb.
All Stars are perennial contenders. In 2011 and 2010 the side lost to Roma in the national title game. In 2009 they made it to the semi-finals and before that they were champions on multiple occasions.
Thus far, AS A have looked good. The side is 1-0 after crushing Unity A 33-17 in the season opener weeks ago (they were slated to tackle Roma B over the weekend but that match was cancelled). A number of ladies have played well in attacking player Stacy Reid-Satahoo, ageless veteran Lyneth Monteith and Kimesha Walters. Arguably the biggest impact has come from newcomers Lisa Kemp, softball player Azelle Kay and flag football player Katherine Maw.
AS A have a relatively comfortable slate of games for the next month. They play Unity B (next Thursday, 9 February), AS B (next Saturday, 11 February) and Rising Stars B in early March.
Aside from the AS-Flames match, Rising Stars B takes on Unity B this Saturday at 6.30pm.
