Floyd’s brace keeps Harry’s top of table

Harry’s FC unbeaten run continued last weekend in the Heineken Sunday League. Their opponents were Prison who they defeated 3-0 thanks to two penalties from Floyd ‘Irons’ McKenzie and a scrambled Dave Hubble effort. It could have in reality been more for Harry’s, but a combination of agile keeping from Prison’s stopper and poor decision making near goal kept the score lower.

McKenzie’s brace takes his tally to 15 and clear favourite for the Golden Boot trophy, five goals ahead of his nearest challenger.

Second place Agua FC were given a fright by bottom of the table CML Claymores in their match at Ed Bush field. CML raced to a 2-0 half-time lead after getting off to a flying start through Chris Turrell and a brilliant goal by Andy Christie.

It was a different Agua side after the break. First, Dan Cummings reduced the deficient with a tap in thanks to Marc Mata’s persistence. Sixty seconds later it was 2-2 when fast free flowing football presented Stephan Kormos with an easy chance.

Although Agua were in total control at this stage they eased up somewhat after they equalised. A winning goal for Agua did arrive ten minutes from time when a clumsy challenge forced a spot kick. Greg Ebanks had to retake his initial kick after encroachment by a teammate but still managed to score on his second attempt.

Third place Triple Crown Wanderers slipped back to fourth in the league after Boca scrapped a 3-2 win. Boca went ahead on 17 minutes through a contentious indirect free kick award for a perceived deliberate back pass to the Wanderers’ keeper. Carlos Welcome managed to find a way past the assembled Wanderers players who were camped on the goal line. Wanderers equalised three minutes later through their top scorer Ben Silveira. Moments later Silveira was presented with a golden chance to put his side ahead from a penalty but he crashed his shot over. Into the second half and it was Wanderers who took the lead when Silveira made up for his penalty miss with a mazy run down the wing to tee up Forde Pierson who scored. Wanderers lead lasted only three minutes when Boca equalised though Ariel Tatum and then took the lead when their top scorer Henry Mitchell volleyed home to make it 3-2.

MC Devils’ continued rejuvenation with their second win in a row and only their third all season with a comfortable 3-0 victory against a disappointing Old Boys side. After the break Fran Donoghue caught the ball sweetly on the half volley. That’s two goals in two weeks from the in-form Scotsman. Then a Kevin Ashworth cross found an unmarked Dylan Hume who passed the ball home. The third arrived just before the end when Colm Flanagan chased down a through ball and managed to toe end it pass an out rushing Old Boys keeper for his first goal of the season. The deserved victory sees Devils move off the foot of the table.
