Music association postpones meeting

The Cayman Music and Entertainment Association has announced its Annual General Meeting has been postponed. The organisation said the meeting has been moved to a date this summer that has yet to be determined.

A quarterly meeting will still be held at the Harquail Theatre this Sunday from 1pm to 3pm.

CMEA President Jean-Eric Smith explained that the reasons for the move.

“The first reason is to align ourselves with the fiscal year of the government, as the timing of elections changed some eight years ago and we should have really done this when the country did,” Mr. Smith said. “The second reason is to align ourselves with the political year and give ourselves a better chance to have a say in the political direction of the future.”

The third reason given by Smith was that, “It is ludicrous for an executive to take over in the middle of the tourism season. It would be more practical to do so in the off-season (summer time).”

Mr. Smith said the decision would mean a more seamless transition for a new executive.
