Diamond girls are still sparkling

The Clifton Hunter High School Diamonds have proven themselves as a team that refuses to quit.

The squad recently took on the John Gray High School Marlin Academy at the Triple C School Hall. The match was part of the KPMG Under-14 Basketball League.

An overtime thriller, the game had fans biting their nails with excitement and anxiety as both teams traded baskets. Marlin Academy’s Melissa Bridgemohan scored a season high 27 of her team’s 31 points. However it would not be enough to overcome Yolannie Manzanare, who led the Diamonds to victory with 16 points while team-mate Lacee Barnes added 12 points. Interestingly Bridgemohan and Manzanares are veterans of youth basketball, having competed in the U16 and U19 competitions over the years.

The Diamonds are back in action at Triple C school hall on Monday, 5 March. They take on John Gray’s Tarpon Academy at 4.15pm. Monday also sees John Gray’s Wahoo Academy taking on Triple C at 3.15pm. On Wednesday, 7 March, it’s a John Gray battle royal as Marlin face Wahoo at 3.15pm with Tarpon taking on Dolphin at 4.15pm.

League matches continue this week in the boys segment at the University College of the Cayman Islands multipurpose hall. On Tuesday, 6 March, Marlin battle Wahoo at 3.15pm with Tarpon tackling Dolphin at 4.15pm. On Thursday, 8 March, the Clifton Hunter Sharks face Triple C at 3.15pm and Tarpon fight Marlin at 4.15pm.

The league has an all-star evening planned for 17 March with the postseason beginning the week of 19 March.
