A dog’s dinner

Animal Welfare organisation PAWS is hosting a charity dinner on Saturday, March 10 to raise money for its programme.

The dinner, titled Paws in the Sand, will be held at Rum Point Restaurant – with a free boat service operating between Safehaven and Rum Point.

Boats depart from Safehaven at 6pm, arriving at Rum Point at 7pm. Guests will enjoy a cocktail reception followed by a buffet-style dinner with tunes supplied by a DJ and live and silent auctions. Boats return to the west side at 11pm.

This is the first charity dinner to be held by the nonprofit organisation. PAWS was established in June 2010 to promote animal welfare, with activities focused in the eastern districts. The majority of the work PAWS carries out centres around community dog washes, a spay and neuter programme and providing financial assistance to families who struggle to cover veterinary bills and food costs.

Staffed entirely by volunteers, PAWS depends on charitable donations to cover its valuable work. Tickets for the fundraising dinner are $100 per head and include food, cocktails on arrival and one bottle of wine per couple as well as boat transportation.

Reservations may be made by calling the Lighthouse Restaurant on 947-2047 (make sure you specify you are booking the PAWS dinner).
