A record number of kids are expected to play flag football this year.
The start of The Security Centre 2012 Youth Flag Football League saw over 250 kids at the Camana Bay sports field last Saturday. Aged between seven and 17, youngsters like local basketball players Dominic Martucci engaged in drills to identify their grasp of football fundamentals and their physical talents.
Games are expected to start this Saturday at Camana Bay from 11am and continue until about 4pm. League coordinator Kyle Broadhurst states the league will only continue to grow.
“We are very excited about this upcoming season,” Broadhurst said. “The league has grown from 130 children the first season, to 180 children in the second and last year we had over 230 players. We anticipate further growth this year.”
The competition has been ongoing for the last few years and is organized by the Cayman Islands Flag Football Association.
