Cayman fishing will soon see its next major event in the Rooster Shootout.
Slated for this weekend, 23-25 March, the Cayman Islands Angling Club will oversee anglers patrolling Grand Cayman’s waters and showing off their catches at the Grand Harbour weigh station.
Last year’s event, sponsored by Kirk Group, saw big catches from 37 boats and 144 competing anglers. Captain Danny Ebanks and his crew of Mustache Man were the big winners with a 49lb 2oz yellowfin tuna and a 37lb 5oz dolphin. Other notable catches came from Katrina Ebanks (39lb wahoo and 48lb 5oz tuna), Justin Ebanks (29lb 2oz wahoo), John Sperandeo (27lb 1oz dolphin), Melissa Rewalt (24lb 5oz dolphin) and celebrity angler Charles Ebanks (48lb 2oz tuna).
The 2011 event had an extra twist as there was an Outer Banks restriction for the first time. That meant Cayman’s off-shore fishing grounds were off limits, with fishing only permitted within Cayman’s territorial waters.
