The monthly Laughter Lounge kicked off again after a break in February and what a wonderful reintroduction to what has become one of the most popular events on the local social calendar.
Damon Williams returned to host it and this time he brought to the Vivendi Great Room in the Strand James ‘Talent’ Harris. Williams warmed things up nicely, mostly ribbing the audience about the quirky aspects of living in the Cayman Islands. He reckons that the place is so small when romances and marriages break up it is inevitable you’ll continually bump into each other – even on roundabouts.
Gigantic Harris came in with an accurate imitation of the even bigger Biggie Smalls and along with his own enormous personality he generated huge laughs. His range was expansive and included animals as pets, dealing with the sniper who terrorised America some years ago, getting fired from your job and keeping it secret from your wife, how different races behave at the movies and inevitably, the expense of living in Grand Cayman. “I went to a bar, ordered a drink and the bill was $747!”
The next round of hilarity is on 27-28 April with Owen Smith and promoters Rod Jefferson and Brad Watts are hoping to bring over a female comedian. Well worth booking your diary from now judging by last weekend’s packed houses.
