The Seafarers Association held a social last week in which members of the association were honoured for their contributions.
At the event on Tuesday, 20 April, the group also presented a cheque to the Pines, a non-profit charitable organization established to provide residential accommodation for the elderly.
President of the Seafarers Association, John Douglas said, “It is with great pleasure and pride that I hand over this cheque for $5,000 to the Pines to assist with the important work they do.”
The money was received on behalf of the Pines by Olive Miller, who said she was grateful for the expression of kindness shown by the seafarers. She added that furnishing new rooms at the facility would cost $7,500.
Mr. Douglas gave an undertaking to provide the rest of the funds.
The next council meeting for the Seafarers Association is scheduled for 10 April, while the next General Meeting will be held on 17 April.
