The Cayman Islands’ Consumer Price Index Report: December 2011

Main Story:  Economic Performance as of the Third Quarter 2011

The Consumer Price Index for the quarter ending December 2011 increased by 1.9 per cent compared to the quarter ending December 2010.

“The modest increase in the local CPI was due mainly to sharp movements in the price of transportation triggered by oil price changes” noted Premier and Minister of Finance McKeeva Bush.

The December 2011 CPI brings the overall inflation rate for the year 2011 to 1.3 per cent. The inflation rates in previous quarters gradually rose from .03 per cent in March 2011 to 1.0 per cent in June 2011 and 2.4 per cent in September 2011.
