The Security Centre Packers recently made a big statement with the pigskin.
The Packers downed the Cayman Islands Flag Football Association Eagles 27-14 last Saturday. The contest, part of The Security Centre Limited Youth Flag Football League, took place at the Camana Bay sports field.
For the Packers, who play in the senior league, the win is a bounce-back performance from a loss earlier this month. The key was an impressive defensive effort by the whole team. On two occasions, the Packers intercepted the ball courtesy of Dominic Martucci, who also completed 19 of 24 passes and ran for two touchdowns.
In addition, Sonny Powell racked up an impressive six sacks during the game to limit the Eagles offence. Overall, the team played with a high level of intensity and looks ready and willing to take on more challenges.
The other senior division game saw the Chrissie Tomlinson Memorial Hospital Giants defeat the Zulu Warriors 19-14.
The highlight in the middle division was the flag football association Colts crushing the SRS Steelers 20-0. ReShaun Wright led the Colts on offence and defence as he ran for two long TDs and recorded three quarterback sacks. Daniel Manderson rounded out the scoring with a TD reception and a two-point conversion. Gannon Rutty threw to Manderson on both occasions and made a crucial interception on the defensive side of the ball.
Over in the junior ranks, the Broadhurst Bucs defeated the Maples Raiders 21-8. The Bucs were an impressive group as Lamar McLean had a 60-yard rushing TD and a receiving TD. Matthew Dube added a passing TD and a rushing TD while Nathan Morgan had about five tackles and a safety.
In other games, the Al La Kebab Titans defeated the Security Centre Patriots 26-6. The Dart Dolphins, who feature talents like John Sperandeo, beat the Popeyes Saints 17-7.
