It’s that time of year again, when the sea is reaching bath-like temperatures, yet it’s still the coolest place to be.
For swimmers it also means plenty of competitive swimming events to take part in.
On Saturday, 26 May, its the 10th annual Butterfield 800 metre sea swim.
Participants will swim from just north of the governor’s house on Seven Mile Beach to the southern end of Public Beach.
There is a 40 minute cut off time.
Those who do not finish within that time frame may continue, but do so at their own risk.
Check in opens at 3pm and the race kicks off at 4pm.
Those wishing to participate must register by 3pm today, Friday, 25 May.
Winners in each age category will receive trophies and refreshments will be provided.
Even if you’re only an occasional swimmer, it’s a great way to prepare for the biggest open water swimming event of the year – the Flowers Sea Swim, which is coming up on 9 June.
