Last Saturday night, 600 people came out to the Brac Xplosion event, a fundraiser by local charity the Lean on Me Committee to raise funds for Leukemia victims Giovanni McLean, Marcus McLean and Ric Dixon, suffering from Spina Bifida.
A showcase of 30 performers graced the stage at the Agriculture Grounds in Cayman Brac. Some of the top performers from Cayman Brac and Grand Cayman united for the worthy cause. Miss Cayman Islands Lindsay Japal was also present to present the families with vouchers, explained Derri Lee.
“I have never seen such an outpouring of hospitality and generosity in a long time. The entire Cayman Islands collaborated to make this event a success. The young and the old came out and stayed until the end of the night,” Derri said.
The show began at 7pm with Julianna O’Connor Conolly welcoming all to the event. The Emcees for the night were Deputy Commissioner Mark Tibbetts, Kevin Dawkins (Lean on Me member) and Venticia Conolly (former Young Caymanian Leadership Award finalist) who also performed.
“We have currently raised 12,000 and are still collecting funds. We realise that these individuals are not the only victims of these illnesses and because this was such a success we plan to make this an annual event.
“We will identify additional families to assist with the help of the Department of Children and Family Services on the Brac for the next event. The event was in the memory of my dad who recently passed, William Dacres,” Derri continued.
Door prizes were also raffled at the end of the night.
