The Cayman Islands Olympic Committee held their “Luncheon at Windsor Castle” fundraiser at Abacus in Camana Bay on Saturday, June 2.
Although the temperatures were warm, that didn’t stop a number of attendees from showing up in all their finery. Ladies sported beautiful hats and fascinators along with stylish outfits that no doubt would have enchanted the British media and the Duchess of Cambridge herself. Not to be outdone, Master of Ceremonies Ian Dawson-James cut a fine figure in his custom-made union jack ensemble, a brave choice for the outdoors in June.
The event programme included a fashion show with ladies modelling clothes from Sand Angels, Funky Monkey and NKY. Of course it was no surprise to see Truman Bodden hitting the runway as he is a seasoned favourite. He employed an interesting strut technique not yet seen on the Paris catwalks.
As the models changed into new outfits backstage, the audience was treated to the splendid “Tom Jones” (Papie Conolly) crooning “Green, green grass of home,” and at the end of the fashion show Mr. Bodden returned as Prince William leading his lovely “Kate” down the aisle.
The second half of the lunch featured a live auction with some interesting items up for bidding. There was a Harrods Jubilee tea set and tumblers on the list, along with international vacation packages, certificates for local restaurants and a cap signed by medal-winning swimmers Brett and Shaun Fraser. Some of the big-ticket items included a limited edition Baccarat necklace, an autographed photograph of the Rat Pack, an autographed Rolling Stones electric guitar, and a seven-day 2012 Olympics package with tickets to events and accommodation.
Organiser Betty Baraud said she was happy with the success of the lunch, which had been sold out a few days prior.
