If you’re all out of ideas for activities and outings you can do as a family, why not try something new? A triathlon perhaps. The annual Try this Tri, the athletic event for all ages, takes place this Monday, 18 June, in and around Camana Bay.
It may not be the most obvious family-friendly pastime, but with different distances set depending on the age group, it’s actually quite possible for everyone, from toddlers to adults to take part.
Although it’s a family-friendly event, competitors can be individuals, groups of friends and teams of two, three or more.
All you need is a swim suit, a bike and a pair of running shoes and you’re off. Younger age groups have an easier course to complete but everyone ages 5 and older will combine swimming, cycling and running for varying distances. Those ages 4 and younger can compete in the Tykes Dash, which involves running across the soccer pitch.
Best of all there is no registration fee. Instead, all adults are asked to become members of the Cayman Islands Tourism Association, for a $10 fee, as this is a CITA sanctioned event.
Organisers will, however, be accepting donations for Feed our Future, a charity selected by sponsors Solomon Harris. Feed our Future is a nonprofit organisation in which provides nutritious school lunches for children whose families cannot afford them.
Participants also stand a chance of winning one of the many random prizes donated by local businesses such as Red Sail Sports, Nautilus, the Turtle Farm, Books & Books, Little Darlings and more.
