The Customs Department has recently been hit by a series of scandals involving their personnel. In keeping with the Cayman Government benchmark a management failure will never reach the Teflon coated leadership.
In any other country, corporation or institution where dinosaurs roam the corridors of power oblivious to modern methods and the benefits of younger replacements, one would see change. Change by retirement, change by resignation or compulsory change to make way for new blood to lead us into the future. We are unable to clone Deputy Governor Franz Manderson but there are many government employees of similar ability and competence who sit in quiet frustration awaiting their moment. Let’s hope it will not take a meteor strike to effect this most necessary evolution of leadership.
